Everyone’s Invited to The Tucson Dog Magazine’s Dogtoberfest & Adopt-a-Thon

Earlier this year, The Tucson Dog hosted its 1st Annual WOOFstock & Adopt-a-thon at Reid Park and it was a huge success! We were overwhelmed by the turnout and learned so much from our first event, we are already starting to work on the 2nd Annual WOOFstock & Adopt-a-thon which will be on March 15th 2020.

We had always planned to host a similar event and shortly after WOOFstock took place, an opportunity came our way. Handi-Dogs, who had been hosting Dogtoberfest in Tucson for several years decided they weren’t going to be able to host. So we spoke with them and with their help, stepped in to bring our Dogtoberfest event to Tucson that we have been doing for many years in Prescott. Like WOOFstock, it features a major Adopt-a-thon component to help just as many rescue and shelter animals find homes. We would like to thank Handi-Dogs for working with us to help make this a smooth transition.

We will have a schedule of events going on all day for you to participate in. You’ll enjoy an assortment of food and beverages and raffles where you can win great prizes in addition to all the fun! There will be contests like Best Looking Dog, Best Trick or Talent, and Best Halloween Costume Contest. We will also have several demonstrations going on throughout the day like the Tucson Police K9 Unit, The Desert Disc Dogs Tucson Musical will also have a Kid’s Zone with games, prizes, face painting, a Balloon Twister and more. And don’t miss the Caricature Artist who will draw a picture of your dog! See a complete schedule of events in this issue.

Once again as with WOOFstock, our event will be hosted by our exclusive dog-loving radio partners at Lotus Broadcasting. First up will be Larry Mac from 96.1 KLPX radio followed by Meredith from 94.9 MixFM. They bring a lot of fun to our events and do a great job at making sure everyone has a great time!

The Tucson Dog needs volunteers to run this event as well as volunteers to assist rescue and shelter groups walk dogs and relieve them at their booths for breaks and food. Each volunteer receives and wears a special Volunteer event T-shirt which helps identify them from the rest of the crowd attending with their dogs. If you would like to find out more about volunteering, call The Tucson Dog at 520-345-2801 or go to the Dogtoberfest page on our website at www.thetucsondog.com.

And stop by The Tucson Dog booth to pick up some event merchandise like Tote Bags, T-shirts and more. And we would love to hear from you, our fabulous readers, about what you are enjoying about The Tucson Dog and what you would like to see in the future!

The event is supported by many area businesses which is how we invite rescue and shelter groups to attend at no charge. Our only hope is that all the dogs they bring find their new forever homes! Booths are still available if your company would like to be a part of this great event. Call (520) 345-2801 or email ann@thetucsondog.com.

While Dogtoberfest is a lot of fun, it can also be a stressful environment for some dogs. If your dog is easily stressed or not friendly, we recommend you leave your dog at home and bring him back all the goodies you will find at Dogtoberfest.

We want everyone to have a good time so please follow these helpful guidelines:

  • Limit 2 dogs per person.
  • All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier.
  • Leashes must be no longer than 4ft. including retractable leashes.
  • Pay attention and keep control of your dog at all times.
  • No aggressive dogs allowed.
  • Remember to Scoop the Poop and enjoy Dogtoberfest!!

We would like to thank all the businesses who support Dogtoberfest and a special thanks to our Title Sponsors, Adobe Veterinary Center, Camp Bow Wow, 94.9 Mixfm and 96.1 KLPX.

We look forward to seeing you all there! For more information, go to www.thetucsondog.com.
